Materials Research Laboratory
Science websites are boring… right? They don’t have to be, and the revamped Materials Research Laboratory proves that. As part of an overall branding effort, they needed a website that was at the same caliber as the research they produced. Just as important, it had to be at the level as their national peers. The most important parameter was that it would taken care of in-house, so the solution had to be professionally designed, yet easily maintained. In the end, a “system“ vs. a completed website was delivered: Dreamweaver templates, stylesheets, a set of mastheads along with documented Photoshop source files, and sample pages. Did it work? See for yourself HERE. This look is now being carried into other products which will be showcased on this page in the near future.

College of ACES Branding
ACES teaches you about corn, beans, and livestock. Well, don’t they? Yes, but they also do so much more, such as economics, business, and even cutting edge genomics work. This is what they wanted potential students and the rest of the world to know when they needed a new branding statement. To fill this need, a high-end look has been created that acknowledges their agricultural roots, but also makes a bold statement about their other areas of knowledge. This look is now being applied to upcoming pieces of collatoral. Shown here are samples of a fact booklet, tri-panel folder, and an InDesign Template (In production)

Newman Foundation - Class Brochure
Currently, the Newman Foundation is undergoing a major renovation. As part of that renovation, they are giving their marketing materials a more highend look and feel. Presented here is one example of this; a brochure aimed at informing prospective students to the classes the educational arm of the Newman Foundation has to offer. Meant to impress, this brochure takes advantage of strong imagery on the cover for visual impact, along with solid typography inside to deliver a clear message. Finally, it was printed on a felt cover stock to make it feel as rich as it looks.

Dawson Logistics Presentation
Dawson Logistics offers a unique service – emergency pharmaceutical rescue, and the world needs to know about it. So what do you do to get word out? Show it off at an industry conference of course! They had the ideas, they had the product… now they just needed a kick’n presentation. Initially, the client requested a PowerPoint presentation. However, an interview indicated they wanted transitions and animations beyond what a PowerPoint presentation could deliver. In addition it had to easily transition to the web. The result? A Flash-based presentation that delivered their message just as efficiently as they deliver their service.
Family Life Christian Counseling Website
There is a time and place for high-end, slick, overwhelmingly flashy design. You know; small type printed on paper culled from virgin Cardasian Bamboo plant, with an accompanying website driven by a custom built CMS dynamically built on the fly in Flash. This was not one of those projects. Family Life Christian Counseling is a small company built on trust, peace of mind, and serenity. When discussing their brand, it needed to be calming and inviting; a look that would invoke feelings of a trusted one-on-one conversation with a close friend. Relying on tranquil blues, peaceful imagery, and most importantly a nod the founder’s strong Christian beliefs; a logo and website was created. The result is a website that is not only informative, but acts as a trust building tool.
Network Geographics Identity
How’s your network doing? Do you know? If so, is it because you have papers flying around with scribbled down notes? That doesn’t seem too efficient… and Network Geographics wants to do something about it! They have created an innovative product that automatically keeps track of your network files for you instead of having to do it by hand. The kind of product that would be useful to a fortune 500 company. Problem? They needed a world-class brand to match their world-class product. A look that drew on analogies of mapping uncharted territories was created.
UIQ
It’s the game that’s sweeping the nation!! Well, at least the University of Illinois Campus. A marketing piece that would tell the world about all the great things that have come out of the University was needed. As a parameter, it had to appeal to current as well as incoming students. Lets be honest though; how boring is yet one more brochure that lays out facts and figures? Enter UIQ. Pulling questions out of a database UIQ delivers it’s marketing message in the form of a web-based trivia game. Instead if the “normal” collegiate look, an interface was painted that looked like an old beat-up midway game. UIQ was then packaged along with other fun quirky pieces and delivered in a site that uses a video the University of Illinois Quad mounted on a wall. Copy Editor: Royce Matson
